The first rally for 2009, was the New Years Stages Rally at Kirkistown, the first ever round of the new Pacenotes Two Wheel Drive Championship. Andrew Bushe had co driver Safron Thomas in the hot seat in the Hegarty Metals Saxo S1600, on what was a day of difficult conditions.
A slightly wrong tyre choice cost the crew a few seconds on the opening two stages, but on stages three and four they fought there way back, with a fastest two wheel drive time on stage 3 in the little 1600cc car. A freak storn took hold at Kirkistown, bringing almost monsoon conditions, and forcing the results to be declared aftet stage 4.
The crew completed stage five and where second fastest two wheel drive, just two seconds off the winners time, despite water causing the engine to cut out several times in the stage. It was a promising start to the year for the team, who due to lack of finance are running second hand tyres, so second two wheel drive and 13th overall ahead of many four wheel drive Group N cars was a promising result to start the year with.
The next planned event is the Eurocables Stages, round one of the NI Championship at Kirkistown. |
